Photographic Nights of Selma

Founded by Stephane Kossmann and JoAnne Bland in 2020 and hosted by ArtsRevive every fall, the Photographic Nights of Selma Festival highlights photography as an art form and joins people from across the globe to share time together in a historic location. Education and community building are core components of the festival which includes presentations, exhibit tours, and arts programming for local students.

Photographic Nights of Selma features high-quality professional work. An annual call invites guest photographers from around the world to submit work and also spotlights a well-known photographer to exhibit and speak at the festival, providing international exposure to both young and old photographers, while building community and lifting up Selma-Dallas County as an arts destination. Festivalgoers can spend time with the artists to learn about their craft and discover the meaning behind the work they create through tours, lectures, Q&A sessions and evening screenings. The screenings feature 15 different photographers’ bodies of work set to music composed by French musicians, and are voted on by audience members. Winners of the festival receive international exposure and are invited to travel to the sister festival in Pierrevert, France.

This event is produced in partnership with Foot Soldiers Park, and is generously funded by the Educational Foundation of America, the Trust for Civic Life Foundation, the Alabama Department of Tourism, and local donors. Photographic Nights of Selma is funded by Ala-ton RC&D, Trust for Civic Life, and Alabama Department of Tourism.
