Gallery 905 Presents “Entangled”: A Solo Exhibition by Folk Artist Andrew McCall

Opening Reception: Thursday, August 7 | 5:30 PM | Gallery 905, Selma, AL

Gallery 905 is proud to present “Entangled” a solo exhibition of works by Alabama folk artist Andrew McCall, opening Thursday, August 7th at 5:30 PM. The show features McCall’s whimsical and nature-rooted creations made from hand-gathered vines and salvaged materials - from baskets and birdhouses to tables, chairs, and tiny churches.

Known as the “Vine Man,” McCall has spent the last 40 years walking the woods near his home south of Montgomery, collecting wisteria, grape, and kudzu vines to transform into art. Alongside his wife, Etta, McCall has built a life around faith, creativity, and stewardship of nature. “Working with a wisteria or kudzu vine is kind of like dancing,” he says. “You have to let it tell you what to do, never get ahead of the vine.”

From craft fairs to QVC, from the front porch of Priester’s Pecans to the Kentuck Festival of the Arts, Andrew McCall’s work has inspired collectors and communities across the South. But his story is rooted in something deeper than craft, it’s about listening, responding, and creating with humility. “Everything I do, in my heart, God says, ‘Do it this way. Do it that way.’ So I don’t consider myself self-taught, but a God-taught artist,” says McCall.

Join us for the opening reception on August 7th, 5:30 pm at Gallery 905 to meet the artist and experience the soulful, joyful work of a man who simply follows the vine.

The 47th Annual Kathryn Tucker Windham’s Tale Tellin’ Festival will be held at ArtsRevive on October 16, 2025. Founded in 1978 by Kathryn Tucker Windham, the festival has gained national prominence and attracts professional artists annually. Windham was a renowned storyteller, journalist, and author, often called the “Ghost Lady.” The festival honors her legacy, bringing storytellers and listeners of all ages to Selma. Charlie Lucas, Windham‘s long-time friend, will emcee the event and assist with Tellin’ in the Schools, showcasing their blended storytelling and visual art.

Join us on Thursday, July 10th at 5:30pm to celebrate Jon Osborne's exhibition "I've Seen That Face Before (Libertango)." The reception to meet the artist at Gallery 905 in Selma is free and open to the public.

Music inspires Jon's colorful paintings, and he sees colors when he hears sounds due to a condition called, "synesthesia." Since suffering a traumatic brain injury in 2019 he has been a strong advocate for the healing power of art.

His works have featured in exhibitions throughout Alabama and across the United States, including the Kentuck Festival (where he has been a Guest Artist since 2023) and Magic City Art Connection (where he received the Joe Piper Award of Distinction).

Jon Osborne was born and raised in Lowndes County in the town of Davenport, Alabama. He studied art and graphic design in Montgomery at Alabama State University and Trenholm State Community College. He currently lives in Birmingham.

"I've Seen That Face Before (Libertango)" will be on view from July 1-August 29, 2025. Gallery hours are Tuesday through Friday from 11am-4pm, and from 10am-2pm Saturdays. The gallery will be closed July 4th. For more information, call the gallery at (334) 878-1905.
